The Mad House used to house the most exclusive restaurant in the valley. After a million dollar renovation it has transformed from the Common Man restaurant into the Mad House Rentals. This professionally managed, Renovated barn is nestled between Lincoln Peak and Mount Ellen, with Mad River Glen just a short distance away. The Mad House brings you everything you could want for any season. Ski lockers, mudrooms, A/C in most units, private decks with private grills and hot tubs. There is a smart TV in every bedroom and a washer and dryer in every unit. In the winter, the Mad Bus stops out front for transportation to the mountains for skiing and in the summer and fall, you can find a hiking network of trails right from the building. History of this iconic barn

If you have been coming to the valley for years, then you know this was once an iconic restaurant that served the valley for over 60 years in various restaurant capacities, the last and most known being The Common Man.

In 2019, the building underwent a million dollar renovation converting it to 3 very high end, keyless units. For people that have visited the restaurant in the past, they have found staying now offers a high end experience with nostalgia. If you have never been to the restaurant, you will be welcome with beautiful units that have history you can learn about if you so choose.

The units are available for short term or in some cases seasonally. The entire house can also be rented for large parties that want to be together but also have some privacy.

The upstairs units still hold the charm of the old barn while the lower unit houses a more contemporary barn flair. Each unit is completely independent with their own kitchens living areas , decks and private hot tubs.

The lower unit is dog friendly, while the upstairs units are small dog considered units.

We are Mike and Des Trahan and we are passionate about this barn and the Mad River Valley. We have been affiliated with the Mad River Valley for over 25 years and continue to love its charm. We owned the barn during the final chapter of it's tenure as The Common Man and in 2019 we were personally involved it's renovation to rental properties We love to travel and have taken care to meet the needs of the most discerning guests. While we love the barn and visit it regularly, we do have a 24 hour management group to handle all of your needs, should you have any.
